The "Success Story" of Our Program

This is probably going to be the last post this month, as this school year has almost ended. The last time we do this will be later on, after school, but I'll just give you the success story now. *ahem*

"As I walked through the dusty road I wondered how I'd managed in my few days with them. The children were pleasant little imps, even though they sometimes were so obnoxious I wanted to throw up. I think the kids did a pretty good job in translating and memorizing the numbers, so I'm perfectly happy with how it turned out. We'd managed to teach them numbers from 1-20, and I think that I did an okay job of checking those. As for the letters, we'd taught them all and then some. Hanna, Chacha and Vanca had taught the intermediate class, so I only know about how the Beginner class does. Based on my opinion and their statements, the boys in that class had been very bad, but they all seemed to learn things all right. This will be the last time I'd see them, and I rejoiced... as well as lamented in both my freedom and my loss..."

Nice story? Really? Thank you!

Reflection

My reflection for the last time I did the C&S is:
- It was okay; I managed to teach the kids some stuff, and they didn't seem to mind my borrowing their pencils 'cause I didn't bring my pencil case.
- We were teaching them about numbers (11-20) and reviewed letters.
- We played a game where the students have to say the number/letter translation.
- For the highest scorer (Rantes) we gave 2 stars. And for the second winners we gave 1 star.
- We went home at 5:30 p.m.

CHANGE OF PLANS!

We'd decided to change the plans entirely! This time, we're working in semi-separated groups. This is what my group is doing:
What: Teaching some village kids English
Where: Nearby Hanna's and Chacha's houses
When: Usually Tuesday after school
Who: Village kids
Why: To educate the less fortunate
How: By using simple books to teach them about English.

The other group has had some technical difficulties (*cough*Siscahasatournament*cough*) so they haven't done much.
That's all I've got right now, so hang on for more!

Postponation (if that's a word...)

Uh... we've sorta postponed the thing because of my huge fever. Okay, maybe not that huge... but still... what does 38 degrees sound like? Anyway, we've postponed the project because of that, so I think we're just gonna start making the boxes now. Do you think I should make boxes for each class or just 1 box for a school building? Well, I think it should be 1 gigantic box for one, but the "customer is king", right? *sigh* So, I guess we'll just get boxes for every class... a HUGE headache collecting the boxes, but meh. That's nothing compared to the grade I got. And the projects all piled up against each other. Geez. Teachers are so dang inconsiderate.

The Big Production

What: The Paper Recycling Project
Aim: To recycle unused paper.
How: By asking people to collect their unused paper in a big bin/cardboard box. At the end of the year, we'll smash the paper into pulp and make something from it. We can try to sell the things we make, so we can raise money for the orphanages or something. if not for trying to convince people not to do illegal logging.
Why: Because global warming is becoming a more and more threatening risk to ending humankind. If we try to stop it, maybe we'll be able to stop it altogether.
Who: The Koi Building first, then we'll see if we can get more boxes/bins if the project was successful.
When: We'll probably start next week.

Well, technically, that's the plan in a nutshell.

Results of The Discussion

Well, yesterday, we (my group) had a discussion about which ideas were best to use. After the long and boring discussion, we decided to use:

1. Recycling Paper
2. Planting Trees
3. Organic Garden Program
4. Energy Saving.

We went with a vote, and decided that we should use the Recycling Paper idea.

The Process of Formation

My group was formed under the strict orders of my Science teacher. First, she asked us each to make a .gmail account. Then she told us to go to this site to make our own blogs. And then she asked us to write this blog strictly for the Community and Services programs "and nothing else!" And finally she asked us to find 2 ideas on this website.

I did find 2 ideas in fact:

1. Recycling the Waste Around Us
2. Organic Garden Program

The processes are:

1. Putting all the waste paper into a big box. By the end of the school year, all paper will be soaked in water, made into pulp and made into something else.
2. Planting all sorts of harvestable plants (e.g. rice, potatoes, tomatoes, etc.) and harvesting them at the end of the year.

That's all I got so far. It will be put into action soon.
